HOUGHTON — The Friends of the Portage Lake District Library put together a scavenger hunt in downtown Houghton as a fundraiser for the library.

Teams were given 90 minutes to take pictures of themselves completing a list of tasks or with the business sponsors. Each task was given a point value and at the end, prizes were awarded for different categories. This is the first fundraiser of its kind that the Friends of the Library has hosted.

“This is the first time we’ve done it. We’re very excited, we have over $825 in sponsorship from the local businesses and we have 16 teams. So, we think we’ve raised over one thousand dollars for library community programs, so, we’re very excited about that for our first try,” said President of the Friends of the Portage Lake District Library Maria Bergstrom.

The funds will support some of the library’s community programs including the Summer Reading Program, Storytime for Kids and various other educational programs. Business sponsors included Chassell VFW, the Print Shop, Douglass House and Armando’s as well as fifteen others.
