Pizza Place raising money for suicide awareness

MUNISING — A pizzeria in Munising is selling pizzas Friday in hopes of raising money for suicide awareness.

Pictured Rocks Pizza is selling pizzas with two toppings for $10 each from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. all day Friday. Hundreds of tickets have already been sold.

The staff at Pictured Rocks Pizza and volunteers spent Thursday getting ready for the big rush of pizzas that will be made in their wood-fired grill. All of the proceeds from the event will stay in the local area to help further educate people about suicide.

“Education, as we know, costs funds. We’ve also been getting speakers in our community,” said Health Department Educator, Bobbi Ayotte. “We are looking to do curriculum in the schools with students and adults so all the funds raised will be going towards those purchases.”

“It’s a personal story for me. I lost my father about nine years ago to suicide and it’s time to get the word out there,” said Kim Cromwell, owner of Pictures Rocks Pizza. “There is education, there is medicine.”

After the fundraiser is complete, Pictured Rocks Pizza will open for the summer on Wednesday.
