Marquette meth lab suspect arraigned

MARQUETTE — A Marquette man is in jail in connection with a meth lab found on New Year’s Day.

Michael Hill, 32, is charged with operating or maintaining a meth lab. He’s in the Marquette County Jail on $10,000 bond.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department says they got a call shortly after 8:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day about a trash can fire at the Imperial Motel in Marquette Township. The fire had already been put out, but components discarded from what may have been a meth lab started it. No suspects were present by the time police arrived.

Deupties called in the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team, and UPSET found numerous meth production components at the motel. Police identified Hill as a suspect and arrested him on Saturday. The Michigan State Police and the Marquette City Police assisted in the investigation.

The Sheriff’s Department says Hill is also a suspect in the dumping of meth components that were found in Marquette on Friday. Deputies are asking anyone with information about that incident to call them at (906) 225-8435.
