1991 NMU hockey team in running for Frozen Four Finest

MARQUETTE, Mich. – NCAA.com has put together a social media contest to once and for all determine who the greatest Division I hockey team really is. The 1991 NMU Wildcat hockey team has been named one of the top 16 all-time teams that will be vying for the title of Frozen Four Finest.

The 1991 NMU Wildcats will open the 16 team tournament by facing off against 1984 Bowling Green State. Northern Michigan’s match up with the Falcons will be Tuesday, September 16th with voting open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Votes will be tallied via social media responses. Details on how to vote will be released Monday, Sept. 15.

In 1991 Northern Michigan went 38-5-4 and finished the season by winning the national championship in a triple overtime 8-7 thriller over Boston University. Darryl Plandowski scored the game-winner, which is often referred to as “The Greatest Goal Nobody Knows About.”
