U.P. Football All-Star Game recap

The U.P. Football All–Star Game was another success on Saturday. When you put the best players and some of the top coaches all on the same field, some good things are bound to happen.

The game started out faster than anyone thought it would. After the West scored on a 70–yard pass play for six points, the East Team countered with an 85–yard touchdown pass from Alex Briones to Kyle Winkelman, but the West Team still led 7–6.

Later in the first half, for the West Team, Matt Schulz found the end zone from 19 yards out– one of two TD’s in the game for the North Dickinson product. The game was close through three quarters, until the East Team pulled away in the fourth, outscoring the West, 14–0 in the final quarter.

The East Team won the game 41 to 24, making it six straight wins for that side of the U.P. As we noted last week, next year’s All–Star Game features the North against the South.
