BAY CITY, Mich. — Michigan Tech women’s basketball player Katie Zimmerman has been named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week after averaging 22.5 points in two important road wins last week.
Zimmerman made a combined 12 3-pointers and had seven rebounds, five assists and four steals to go with the 45 points on the week. The 5-6 guard scored 19 points on 4-of-9 3-point shooting and 7-of-7 free throw shooting in a 75-71, double-overtime win at Grand Valley State. Her four free throws in the final minute of the second overtime iced the victory to give Tech a one-game lead in the GLIAC standings. Zimmerman then broke her own school record with eight 3-pointers on 13 attempts in a 75-58 win at Ferris State en route to a career-high 26 points.
Michigan Tech has had seven of the 10 possible GLIAC North Division Player of the Week selections in 2009-10. Katie Wysocky has earned the honor five times (Nov. 23, Dec. 14, Jan. 4, Jan. 11 and Jan. 25) and Danae Danen was chosen for Dec. 21.
The Huskies are winners of eight straight games and own records of 18-1 overall and 13-1 in the GLIAC. Tech plays six of its final eight regular season games at home including two this week with Tiffin coming to the SDC Gym Thursday (Feb. 4) and Ashland Saturday (Feb. 6).
