Michigan Tech Needs Old Shoes

People at Michigan Tech hope you have an old pair of shoes you no longer need.

They’re trying to collect as many worn-out old pairs as they can.

Michigan Tech’s Student Activities Office is trying to emphasize the value of community service.

They’re taking part in a national drive called “Reuse-A-Shoe”.

It’s a program run by shoe giant Nike where your old footwear is broken down and recycled.

If you have a pair to donate, Rachel Wussow is asking you to bring it to her in the Memorial Union Building.

The activities office has collected a little over 100 pairs.

The goal is 2,500.

The rubber and foam from the sole get recycled, as well as the shoe fabric.

They’re eventually turned into gym floors, tennis court surfaces and playground equipment.
