Two AWOL Soldiers Sentenced in Alger County

Two U.S. army soldiers who plead guilty to having concealed weapons and going AWOL were sentenced today.

20 year old Powers Goldwire from Fort Campbell, Kentucky and 21–year old Matthew Cox from Radford, Virginia were both sentenced today.

They each received 80 days in jail with credit for 80 days served.

The two are currently on their way back to their respective military bases.

Goldwire and Cox were arrested on February 18th while they were walking through the City of Munising carrying handguns, a riffle and knives.

The two had gone absent without leave from the army and said they were heading to Canada.
