Taking Out the Trash

Houghton County residents have a new place to take out their trash.

The new solid waste transfer station in Atlantic Mine opened to the public today.

The $2.1 million facility is a considerable improvement to the old station, which is sinking into the Isle Royal Mine on which it was built.

The money for the project comes from bonds sold to the government which the county then buys back.
