Snow Days Piling Up for Schools

Many school districts were closed across Upper Michigan on Monday because of the weather.

The Marquette Area Public Schools have come close to doing something they haven’t done in two years — using up their built-in snow days.

After the latest storm caused a fourth snow day for the Marquette district, there’s only one banked snow day before the kids may have the school year extended.

Superintendent Debbie Veiht says the other option would be to cut into spring break by a day or two, but because many families have travel plans for that week, she doesn’t want to do that.

MAPS is trying out a new system this year in which parents of students can sign up to be e–mailed immediately about snow days and delays in the district.
