Skandia Man Dies in Rollover

A Skandia man died after a rollover crash this weekend.

Shortly before 5pm Saturday night Troopers from the Negaunee Post of the Michigan State Police received a report that a vehicle was found rolled–over at the end of an old railroad grade South of Dalton Road in Skandia Township.

Troopers arrived on the scene and located a 1999 GMC Jimmy on it’s roof.

No one was located inside or in the immediate vicinity of the vehicle.

Police then checked the residence of 50 year old Bryan Lee Vartti, the vehicles registered owner but were unable to locate him.

It was then learned that Vartti had not been in contact with close friends in over two days.

This prompted the state police canine unit, as well as other troopers and area residents to search the wooded area surrounding the scene of the crash but were unable to located Vartti.

The following day the Marquette County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team conducted a search and located Varrti in a wooded area about halfway between the scene of the crash and Dalton Road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The causes of the crash and Vartti’s death have not been determined.

Foul play is not suspected.

The crash remains under investigation.
