Renovations coming to Bernie Rivers Field
Friday was a day of celebration in Negaunee.
More than $200,000 in improvements to the Bernie Rivers Field were announced, and local businesses are to thank. The city received a $100,000 from a Michigan Land and Water Conservation Grant with matching funds from local businesses.
It took two years of planning and more than 200 volunteers hours to make it all possible.
Officials say the improvements are very much needed, and are thrilled about the new modern day recreation facility.
“The project involves improvements to the Rivers Field Little League Complex,” City Park and Recreation Committee Chairman Gerry Corkin said. “We are going to do renovations to the infield and put in compliant playground equipment and offsite parking.”
“Being a previous little league coach myself, I am looking forward to seeing the field refurbished and read to play some baseball,” Negaunee Mayor Keith LaCosse said.
The facility will also have fitness stations, walking paths, as well as basketball and horseshoe courts.
The renovations will begin once the snow clears with the hopes that everything will be completed by the end of the summer.
