Quarterback change for the Wildcats
After a tough loss last week at Ashland, the Northern Michigan University football team is back home on Saturday for a game against the Hillsdale Chargers.
The Chargers have won four straight games over the Wildcats, scoring more than 40 points in three of those four victories. Hillsdale is 1–3 this season, but don’t let their record fool you.
Two of the three games the Chargers lost were by single digits, including a 17–14 loss last week at home against Indianapolis. With the injury to NMU starting quarterback Cody Scepaniak, Dustin Thomas will be in charge of the offense come Saturday afternoon against Hillsdale.
“His preparation has been great this week. He’s gone about his business the way we hoped we would,” said Wildcats head coach Chris Ostrowsky about Thomas. “I’m excited to see him play.”
“Football is a game of contact. It’s part of the game. I think it’s important that we understand that we have to have the mentality that the next guy in will do a great job, play as hard as they can, and let the chips fall,” added Ostrowsky.
“You really don’t want to step in to a situation with the way Cody went down,” said Thomas, who will be making his first career start for NMU after he transferred from Villanova.
“It’s a blessing to be surrounded by the teammates that I have. As soon as we came back from Ashland, they instantaneously picked me up, telling me that they believe in me as the starting quarterback,” Thomas went on to say.
Kickoff Saturday between the Chargers and the Wildcats is set for 1 p.m.
