Nominations now accepted for UP Folklife Awards

MARQUETTE — The Beaumier Upper Peninsula Heritage Center is looking for nominations for this year’s UP Folklife Awards.

These nominations should be people who preserve or create folk culture of the Upper Peninsula. In particular, the UP Folklife Award is aimed toward someone who has been creating their particular works for a long time, and have left a legacy by teaching and continuing to help the traditions grow.

“These are people who should be very involved in helping preserve or create the folk culture of the Upper Peninsula,” said Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center Director Daniel Truckey, “and when we say folk culture we mean: folk music, craft, dance, festivals; events such as that or just their own individual work.”

Nominations must be submitted by Thursday, April 7th. The award will be presented at the annual ethnic benefit dinner on May 10th.
