No one injured in Escanaba apartment fire

No one was injured in an apartment complex fire late Friday night in Escanaba.  The fire was reported at 10:50pm at 823 2nd Ave South.

The two story apartment complex was engulfed in flames when emergency personnel arrived at the scene.

Lt. Jerry Plourde, of Escanaba Public Safety, said “The building was occupied by many tenants at the time of the fire,  everyone home at the time was able to escape the burning building without any injuries.  Additional people were evacuated from homes near the structure fire.”

The fire was eventually contained and extinguished without the fire spreading to neighboring homes.  Fire fighters remained on the scene for more than four hours.

The fire remains under investigation.

Escanaba Public Safety was assisted at the fire scene by the Ford River Township Fire Department Volunteers. The Michigan State Police,  Delta County Sheriff’s Department and Rampart EMS also assisted at the scene.

The Red Cross responded to provide shelter for the displaced tenants and to provide hydration for fire fighters at the scene.
