Houghton County won’t be absorbing its road commission anytime soon.
Last yea, the state made it possible for county boards to dissolve their road commissions and take on those responsibilities themselves as a possible cost savings measure.
The Houghton County Board of Commissioners decided in December not to pursue the issue and keep the road commission intact.
The suggestion to review the potential savings in such a move was brought up by Commission Tim Palosaari at yesterday’s board meeting.
Commissioner Anton Pintar questioned why the board would spend the resources to look at the savings if there was no intention of dissolving the board.
A motion by Palosaari to conduct the review failed to receive a second motion so the item was dropped…again.
