NMU Ski team at U.S. Championships

SOLDIER HOLLOW, Utah – The Northern Michigan University Nordic ski teams raced in the classic distance events at the 2013 U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships on Sunday (Jan. 6).

Sophomore Kyle Bratrud finished second overall in the men’s 10-kilometer junior race in 28:09.3, six seconds behind Logan Hanneman from Alaska Fairbanks. Freshman Sam Elfstrom finished 26th in the race.

In the women’s 5K junior race, freshman Hannah Boyer finished 25th while freshman Megan Edic was 50th.

Senior Chris Bowler was the top Wildcat with his 1:29:07.7 in the 30K classic, finishing 26th. Juniors Erik Soderman and George Cartwright finished 29th and 30th. Junior Ben Hugus (77th) also raced for the ‘Cats.

Junior Rosie Frankowski continued her great start to the season with a 10th place finish in 1:09:34.3 in the 20K classic.

Freshman Mary Kate Cirelli also finished in the top 20 in 18th. Junior Jordyn Ross (32nd) and sophomore Elizabeth Simak (54th) wrapped up Northern skiers.

NMU concludes the U.S. Nationals with the freestyle sprints on Tuesday.
