NMU Remembers 9/11 Anniversary

Today marks the 8th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

For many Americans — and particularly younger Americans — the day is still firmly embedded in memory.

The NMU College Republicans continued their now-annual memorial observance.

They placed more than 2,700 flags on the lawn outside the Learning Resources Center, one for every person who died in the attacks.

Most current college undergrads were in middle school at the time.

It was the first time they’d experienced the feeling of war on American soil, giving them an insight on the vulnerability of the country.

Several we spoke with told us how they watched in horror from their classrooms as TV news outlets broadcast what was going on.

The College Republicans posted the flags at about 9:30 this morning and took the memorial down late this afternoon.
