NMU Professors Reject Contract Offer

Northern Michigan University’s professors’ union has to go back to the bargaining table with administrators.

The union shoots down an offer for a new contract.

NMU’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors voted on the contract offer last night.

They rejected it, 123 to 107.

Some faculty members who voted ‘no’ are concerned the school doesn’t have enough faculty, and that the pay wouldn’t be enough to cover the cost of living.

Some are also concerned that the contract would have made them conduct more academic research without devoting any more resources to it.

And they say that would limit the time they can spend on teaching.
