MARQUETTE, Mich. – Aubrey Ficek and Mariah Sherman both had 12 kills and Jacqueline Aird had a game-high 18 digs to lead the Michigan Tech volleyball team to a straight-set victory over Northern Michigan tonight (Sept. 29) at Vandament Arena.

The win was the first for Tech over NMU in Marquette since 2001.

The Huskies (12-2 overall; 4-1 GLIAC) stormed to a 12-7 lead in the opening set on their way to a 25-18 victory. Ficek and Sherman led the way with four kills and Tech hit .444 as a team.

The Black and Gold matched its first-set intensity in the middle frame, jumping out to a 12-4 advantage and never looking back. A tremendous rally for the final point ended with the Huskies forcing Northern into a hitting error to take the set victory.

Michigan Tech came from behind in the third and final period to clinch the straight-set win. After the Wildcats built their first lead of the night, Tech scored seven of the next nine points and closed out the match with a 25-23 win.

Rachel Pohlod had 42 assists in the contest. Lauren Emmert (.692), Sherman (.435) and Sylvie Rokosh (.400) all hit .400 or better to help the Huskies hit .368 collectively.

Michigan Tech stays on the road for a pair of GLIAC matches this weekend. The Huskies visit Findlay on Friday (Oct. 2) before traveling to Hillsdale Saturday (Oct. 3).
