MSP inviting citizens to special police class

IRON MOUNTAIN — Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work for the Michigan State Police? Upper Peninsula residents can find out for themselves what the job is like next month in Iron Mountain.

The MSP – Iron Mountain Post is hosting a ‘Citizen’s Academy’ June 8th through the 29th at Bay College West. There is no cost to register for the class, but the post is asking citizens to sign–up in advance as space is limited.

The four–week class is designed to give people a chance to become familiar with the day–to–day operations of the state police.

“We already have a relationship, I think a really good relationship in our area with the citizens, but it’s about giving them even more where they can learn about crime prevention, patrols, criminal investigations and even drug issues that we have in our area,” said MSP Community Service Trooper Geno Basanese.

You must apply for the class by May 27th. The class runs every Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

A graduation ceremony will be held on June 29th.
