Mqt. Township shows off new facilities

The new Marquette Township building opened a little over a week ago, and already it’s getting a warm welcome from area businesses.

The township hosted an open house for business to see the new facilities both the township hall and the fire station has to offer Wednesday night.  It has been a little more than a year since the builders and township first met to go over conceptual designs of the new building.

“We were able to think outside the box on how to accomplish our goals,” Marquette Township Supervisor Dennis Liimatta said.  “We were desperately cramped for space at the old facility.  We had two offices inside the vault, it wasn’t temperature controlled, no windows…so we were at a critical need for space.”

The new township hall also allows the community to take advantage of its new found space.

“One of the things we tried to do is create a space for the community,” Liimatta said.  “And that’s the room we’re standing in how with the community center.”

“This (the community center) is designed for the community to have a gathering space.  You can rent it out, you can use it during the week, you can hold meetings…it’ll hold from one to one hundred.”

There will be an open house for the general public on  September 12 where the public will be able to have tours of the new building.
