Moosewood Nature Center hosts spring break camp

Spring break is a great week for kids, but for some parents it can be a little stressful if they’re unable to find someone to watch their children for the week.

But this week parents are in luck.

The Moosewood Nature Center at Presque Isle is hosting a spring break day camp all week, giving young children a look at various environmental topics.

Marcia Parkkonen, a volunteer with the Moosewood Nature Center and coordinator of the camp, said, “We spend some time each day outside; we spend some time inside with hands-on crafts, and we spend some time reading stories or [doing] activities that are educational.”

Today the children looked at snow scapes and even painted with snow. Tomorrow they’ll be looking at the signs of spring like buds and flowers and learning about the plant cycle.

“On Thursday we’ll be working with an NMU group who will be here to talk about the water cycle,” Parkkonen said, “and there’s a lot of education and hands on. Guaranteed a messy craft every day, a healthy snack and some outside play time.”

The camp runs from 10 a.m. to noon each day and registration is 25 dollars per child per day for non–Moosewood members; 20 dollars per child per day for members.

Parents can pre–register their kids, but walk–ins are also welcome. More information can be found at Moosewood’s Facebook page.
