ONTONAGON TOWNSHIP — One man received minor injuries after a two-vehicle accident involving a Semco Energy truck Friday afternoon in Ontonagon Township.

The Ontonagon County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened just before 1:00 p.m. on M-64 near Norwich Road. The driver of the truck, Casey Hainault of Lake Linden, was stopped at the intersection on Norwich Road when he began to cross the highway onto Stroud Road. Hainault told police that he did not see the vehicle driven by James Steber of White Pine. Steber swerved to avoid the truck, but he was unable. The truck hit Steber’s vehicle on the drivers side, sending it out of control.

Steber’s vehicle slid off the roadway and came to a rest in a grassy area. He sustained minor injuries to his arm and was transported to Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital, where he was treated and released. Hainault was cited for failing to yield the right-of-way.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan DNR, Ontonagon Village Fire Department, Sonco Ambulance, and Howie’s Towing of Bergland.
