Marquette store offers internships
Students looking to get experience in the retail and/or fashion industry are encouraged to apply for internships at a Marquette Township store.
maurices, a nationwide young women’s clothing store, is offering a Store Management Internship Program for the eighth consecutive year. This 10-week paid internship opportunity, which focuses on “real world” in-store experience, is available to 60 students nationwide. Marquette is one of the internship locations.
“This structured training program allows students to take what they have learned in the classroom and put it to use in a practical environment,” said maurices Sr. Vice President of Stores Neil McPhail.
Interns participate in store leadership, team coaching, sales generation and motivation, and have an opportunity to interact with maurices home office management.
Krisandra Desmarais, maurices Associate Manager for the Concord, New Hampshire store, is proof that the program works.
“My experience in the internship program with maurices was truly amazing. I have learned valuable lessons and life skills that will not only benefit me while I’m with maurices, but in every aspect of life. The internship allowed me to take on management duties and put my knowledge to the test. While in the program I did not just join a team, I became part of the family. It is a fast-paced, challenging and most of all rewarding internship program.”
More than 70 percent of the students who participated in the internship program in 2012 are now working with maurices, with the goal of earning positions as store managers.
“These students have invaluable experiences by getting out of the classroom, and maurices benefits from their ideas, youthfulness and enthusiasm. It truly is a win-win program,” said McPhail.
Internships are paid and, typically, credit based. In addition, each student receives $500 in tuition reimbursement from maurices, a 40 percent discount on clothing, and two of the interns will receive $1,000 scholarships.
