Icy roads cause rollover accident in Sands Township

A 19-year-old driver and 13-month-old child are safe today after their vehicle crashed into a snowbank in Sands Township earlier this morning.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says it happened on County Road 480, 1 mile east of M-553 just before 8:00 a.m. Police say Molly Laurich of Harvey was heading eastbound on County Road 480 in a 2013 Chevy 4-door when she lost control of her vehicle due to an icy left hand curve. The vehicle proceeded to fishtail before sliding off the road, striking a snowbank, rolling over, and coming to rest on its wheels facing the opposite direction.

Both the Laurich and an unrelated 13-month-old were unharmed in the crash. The child was properly secured in a car seat in the back of the vehicle at the time of the accident.

No citations were issued, bu the driver was at fault in the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Sands Township Fire and EMS units.
