Huskies, undefeated, match up against Saginaw

HOUGHTON — Being undefeated has its perks. But one of the downsides is that nice big X that’s on your back and that’s the case with a team in the Copper Country.

The Michigan Tech Huskies are going into this weekend’s matchup undefeated, thanks to a big game from wide receiver David Walter. Coach Tom Kearly says Walter was always an under–the–radar player on the roster.

“He’s done a great job for us. He’s always been in a little bit of that shadow with some of the receivers but this year, with Brandon moving to quarterback, his stature and actual progression of who we’re going to throw the football to has risen and of course he’s done a great job of giving himself more opportunities because he’s made every play that we’ve asked him to make,” Kearly said.

Kearly is aware, though, that Saginaw Valley State will definitely test the Huskies and he would like to get his first win in University Center.

“It’s a football team that historically has been one of the dominant teams in our league. It’s a football team that we’ve had a hard time winning at their place. But as we’ve told the young people, this is a great opportunity for this football team to do something that hasn’t been done in quite some time and get a W down at Saginaw in a hostile environment,” said Kearly.

Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
