Help keep kids warm this winter
ISHPEMING — While we have all been trying to keep warm lately, there are those in our community that don’t have a lot of options when it comes to fighting off the cold.
Project “Keep Kids Warm” kicks off tomorrow to help out those in need in the Negaunee, Ishpeming and Republic area. You will soon see logo Shopko bags around town and volunteers are asking that you generously donate new or gently used coats, hats, gloves and other clothing items.
“We are serving people with real needs in our area, there are depressed economies and people without jobs or seasonal jobs who need a little bit of extra assistance from time to time,’ said Richard Derby, Committee Chair, “Keep Kids Warm.”
Items needed are for infants up to adult size. Derby says it is remarkable to see how everyone comes together to help out.
“Westwood, Ishpeming, Negaunee and our dear friends at Hartman High all come out and create what amounts to a small army to make the project go,” continued Derby.
You have a week to fill up a bag, as the bags will be picked up Saturday, October 17th. Project “Keep Kids Warm” serves about 300 families. Items will be distributed on Saturday Oct. 24th at the Wesley United Methodist Church and the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
