GreenWays Trails Fund

Alternate transportation like biking, walking or jogging can have many benefits for a community.

Many people in the Marquette area are well aware of that.

The area’s non–motorized trail system has a new, permanent funding source.

Michigan Energy Options has helped start the GreenWays Trails Fund with the Marquette County Community Foundation.

Michael Larson, the office manager of Michigan Energy Options’ U.P. office, says it’s an endowment that will help trail groups like the Noquemanon Trail Network and the Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority so that they don’t have to do as much fundraising.

Michigan Energy Options has been involved in the trail system since 2007, when it published its Greenways Trails Map.

The map was updated this past winter.
