Vandals have painted the Father Marquette Statue in downtown Marquette and a reward is being offered to aid in efforts to prosecute the culprit responsible. The statue standing at 501 South Front now has red paint on the face and chest areas.
Marquette Police Detective Captain Gordon Warchock says the spray-paint damage was reported Thursday evening. It is believed to have occurred sometime on October 30 or 31.
The Marquette Beautification Committee is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person/persons responsible for the damage. An investigation is underway by the Marquette Police, (906) 228-0400.
