Marquette County accepts bid from local company to build pole barn for rescue team

MARQUETTE — Marquette County is closer to finding a more permanent home for its rescue team.

In a meeting held earlier tonight, the Marquette County Board of Commissioners decided to go with a local contracting company for a new pole barn, to house the Marquette County Rescue 131 team.

“We’re very happy it’s moving forward,” said Gerry Corkin, Marquette County Board Chairman. “It’s needed. It’s a very good location in the center of the county, and it’s close to US-41, and that’s very important.”

Custom Construction, a company based out of Negaunee, won the contract with a bid of $254,995 for the project, which will place the new barn near the Michigan State Police Negaunee post.

The new barn will be a heated 45×80 barn with indoor heating, and four doors of two different sizes, to move different sized equipment to and from the facility.

The county has been granted an extended stay in the current barn by the state until November 30th.
