Coach Olson named to Michigan High School Football Hall of Fame
ISHPEMING — A local coaching legend now becomes a living legend in the state of Michigan.
Bo Schembechler, Bobby Bowden, Chuck Daly. The state of Michigan has had its fair share of great coaches in sports. Ishpeming football coach Jeff Olson has already made a name for himself with the Hematites for the past 24 seasons and just when you thought his mantle was getting too crowded, he’s getting another huge honor.
Olson has been voted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame. The news was announced by his wife on her Facebook page. ABC 10 / CW 5 asked Coach Olson how he found out about the big news.
“Well one of the committee chairman of the Hall of Fame gave me a call last night and told me. It was surprising definitely because I’m still coaching and still young enough…still got some years left in me. But definitely nice to get recognized, especially by your peers,” Olson said.
Coach Olson added that this distinction should be used to recognize all the coaches he worked for and worked with.
“I try to take a little bit from each one and try to get everything that I’ve learned together to relay to these kids because there’s so many things involved in winning football games and being successful later on in life. I really have to thank all of the people who’ve influenced my life, my parents, and all of the coaches who’ve coached with me and who’ve coached me in the past,” said Olson.
No word yet on when or where the induction ceremony will be. Congratulations to Coach Olson.
