Cliffs Donates Automatic External Defibrillators
Cliffs Natural Resources’ Michigan operations recently donated four automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) to the Ely Township First Responders.
The AED models donated are Lifepak 5000s manufactured by Medtronic, and are valued at approximately $2,000 each. These AEDs will provide the Ely Township First Responders with a potential life saving tool. Early defibrillation along with CPR increases the survival rate in patients in cardiac arrest.
The Ely Township First Responders have 12 members in their team. Prior to the donation only eight had AEDs available to them. With this donation all members of the team are able to carry an AED in their jumpbags when responding to an emergency situation.
“Cliffs recently upgraded their AEDs and felt it was important to donate the units being replaced to a local first responders group that was in need of them,” said Kurt Ball, Cliffs Michigan operations EMS committee chairman. “This is an asset to the community and will provide a much needed life saving tool for this first responder group.”
The Ely Township First responders cover Ely and Tilden Townships located west of Ishpeming. This area covers approximately 237 square miles.
