Backroom Store Owner Faces New Drug Charges
An Upper Michigan businessman who was just cleared of a drug charge in Marquette County was back in court today, this time in Houghton County, facing new felony drug charges.
Houghton Police arrested Michael Jestila of Houghton yesterday.
He’s charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance, a 20-year-felony, and one count of possession of analogues of a controlled substance, which is a two-year felony.
Jestila was arraigned in 97th District Court in Houghton County today, and his bond has been set at $1,000.
He has a preliminary exam set for March 28th.
Jestila is the owner of the Backroom store in Houghton and the former Backroom Obsessions store in Marquette.
Last week, he and his attorney reached an agreement with the Marquette County Prosecutor’s office on a separate drug charge.
County Prosecutor Matt Wiese says the agreement involves dismissal of the charge in exchange for two things: the Backroom Obsessions store remaining closed and Jestila being barred from ever again operating a business in Marquette County.
