HOUGHTON — This weekend, Copper Country Autism Awareness its holding its third annual Family Fun Day at the The Mine Shaft and Rockhouse Grille in Houghton.

The event will take place tomorrow at noon and is sponsored by the Copper Country Elks Lodge #404. It gives a chance for families with autistic children to enjoy bowling, miniature golf and many other games.

Co-Founder Kathe Lanctot says the event creates a special bond between the families.

“We figured that this would be a good way for the families to come and have fun and everybody there will be on the autism spectrum. So if someone
misbehaves, that doesn’t matter because everybody is aware of it and understands it,” Lanctot said.

Lanctot adds that each year, the event gets bigger and the community really enjoys it.

“The children make it all worthwhile. When we see the smiles and we see the fun that they’re having, and their parents are happy and their parents
are smiling, it makes it all worthwhile,” Lanctot said.
