Assisted Living Awareness Week celebrations

MARQUETTE — Some people tend to group assisted living for seniors in the same category as nursing homes, but according to officials at a local organization they are totally different things. This week is National Assisted Living Awareness Week and Brookridge Heights Assisted Living is celebrating with a spirit week of sorts. Each day has a different theme for the residents and staff to participate in.

Executive Director of Brookridge Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care Neal Crothers says, “I’m looking forward to, really looking forward to, adding smiles to peoples faces, and sometimes we have to act a little goofy, but it’s all in the name of fun to have some fun, share some stories with each other, mostly the residents, the residents all have great stories, and they’re just a blessing to be around.”

This week there will be a pajama day, crazy outfit day and a purple day in honor of the Walk to end Alzheimer’s next week. This week they are also holding a money jug competition, and the manager with the most money in the jug will have to work a day with purple hair – all in the name of awareness and good fun.
