Arts and culture grants awarded to Marquette County organizations

MARQUETTE — Twelve arts and culture organizations across Marquette County were awarded grants ranging in size from just over $3,000 to $30,000.
Over $240,000 were dispersed to the organizations, including:
  • The Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum: $30,000
  • The Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum: $6,524
  • Lake Superior Theatre Inc.: $32,000
  • Lake Superior Theatre Inc.: $13,750
  • Liberty Children’s Art Project: $20,000
  • Marquette Area Public Schools: $18,000
  • Marquette Area Public Schools: $14,025
  • Marquette Maritime Museum: $20,000
  • City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center: $5,850
  • City of Marquette Arts and Culture Center: $13,750
  • Marquette Regional History Center: $22,500
  • Northern Michigan University: $16,328
  • Marquette Symphony Orchestra: $18,750
  • Lake Superior Art Association: $9,984
  • Gwinn Area Community Schools: $3,250
  • Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority: $10,000

The funding comes from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.  Last year the MCACA awarded $7.6 million ($196,750 to Marquette County) to arts and cultural organizations and this year $9.7 million was awarded, a 27% increase.
