Al Mitchell named to USA Boxing Olympic Team

The 2012 Olympics in London begin on Friday July 27, and one coach with ties to the Upper Peninsula will be coaching in the games for the United States. Al Mitchell (Marquette) will serve as a “Technical Adviser” for the USA Olympic Boxing team.

Mitchell has an extensive history with the USA Olympic Boxing Team. He served as the teams head coach back in 1996, where he coached David Reid to a Gold Medal in the Light Middleweight Division. Mitchell was also an Olympic Technical Adviser back in the 2004 Olympics.

In addition to Mitchell, USA Boxing has hired four assistant coaches for the upcoming Olympic Games. All of the staff nominations, including Mitchell, are pending approval from the United States Olympic Committee Board of Directors.
