UPDATE: Names released from early morning accident

UPDATE — Tuesday September 6th, 2016 10:45 a.m. EDT

Police have released the names of the drivers and passenger involved in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning in the City of Negaunee.

At approximately 7:25 a.m., 22-year-old Brandon Kagarise of Ishpeming was traveling east on US-41 when he failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Baldwin Avenue. Kagarise’s 1993 GMC Pickup hit a 2001 Jeep Cherokee driven by 17-year-old Jacob Talaga of Negaunee, who was attempting to make a left turn from US-41 onto South Baldwin Avenue.

A passenger in Talaga’s vehicle, 17-year-old Wyatt Tull had to be extricated from the Jeep. He was taken to UP Health System – Marquette for treatment of his injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Kagarise was issued a citation for disregarding a traffic signal.


NEGAUNEE — Emergency responders were called out to the scene of an accident in Negaunee early Tuesday morning.

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and US-41. Two vehicles — a silver pickup truck and a dark-colored SUV — were involved. Both vehicles had damage to the front end. UP Health System EMS was on the scene, but there is no word yet as to what injuries may have occurred.

City of Negaunee Police, Michigan State Police, and firefighters from Negaunee City Fire Department were also on scene. Traffic on US-41 was backed up past the intersection of Teal Lake Avenue and the highway.
