White out conditions in Mackinac County caused a twenty-car car pileup on U.S. 2 Friday morning.
The Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department says the multi-car accident happened as the highway was being closed just east of Brevort.
Emergency crews are using four-wheel drive vehicles, snowmobiles, and a snowplow truck from the Michigan Department of Transportation to access the area.
A sheriff’s department vehicle responding to a separate crash was rear-ended by a semi-truck on U.S. 2 around the same time.
So far, there are only reports of minor injuries.
Police say they are still searching the scene for people stranded in their cars in the Dunes Area between Brevort and St. Ignace.
A fifty–mile stretch of U.S. 2 remains closed from I-75 in St. Ignace to M-77.
