14-year-old beats cancers twice

HOUGHTON — The Copper Country Relay For Life is going on right now.

Whether as a survivor or one who has lost someone to the disease, cancer eventually touches nearly every family in America. To help fight this battle, local residents took to the track at the Copper Country Mall in this year’s Relay for Life. 14–year–old Kimberly Gronlund has beaten cancer twice.

“We’re celebrating my eleventh year for surviving my cancer and it’s been really good having it gone and not dealing with the doctors in a long time,” said Kimberly.

Kimmie hopes that her story will inspire others to keep fighting.

“Just have faith that it’s going to be gone soon and have people pray and, hopefully, it will be gone soon,” she said.

Sunny Cole’s husband is a cancer survivor and she is out helping to sell luminaries to be put out on the track

“They purchase the luminaries for ten dollars and it can be in honor of a survivor or in memory of someone that has passed away and tonight when it gets dark, we’ll light all the luminaries on the track,” Sunny said.

The Relay will keep going until noon tomorrow and Sunny says there’s no better place to be.

“It’s just fantastic to see the people that come out and later on you’ll see them walking the track and they’re so many things going on,” said Sunny. “You can buy things, rummage sales, silver dollar tables, and other organizations are also selling merchandise.”
