ST. PAUL, Minn.— Northern Michigan University Men’s Ice Hockey sophomore defenseman Philip Beaulieu (Duluth, Minnesota) was named to the CCM/AHCA All-America Second-Team the American Hockey Coaches Association announced Friday evening at the Frozen Four.
Beaulieu’s 2017-18 season saw the sophomore catapult himself up the NMU record book. His 42 points on the season tied for fifth-most in program history for a defenseman, while his 31 assists are tied for sixth-most by a defenseman in NMU history. Beaulieu’s 11 goals scored this season tied for seventh-most in the school record book.
Nationally, Beaulieu’s 42 points led NCAA defenseman while his 31 assists were also the most in the country for defenseman. His 11 goals are currently tied for the third-most among defenseman.
During the season, Beaulieu was named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive player of the week on three occasions. The three awards tied junior forward Troy Loggins (Huntington Beach, California) for the team lead in weekly conference honors.

The sophomore needs just six goals to enter the top-10 for career goals by an NMU defenseman, while three points will move him into the top-20 for points by a Wildcat defenseman. Beaulieu’s 47 career assists are already tied for 19th-most in program history.
Beaulieu’s award is the first All-America nod of his career and is the 17th honor in program history. The last Wildcat all-Americans came in 2010 when Mark Olver was named to the first team and Eric Gustafsson was honored on the second team.
The CCM/AHCA Hockey All-American Ice Hockey Teams are sponsored by CCM Hockey and chosen by members of the American Hockey Coaches Association.
NMU finished the season with a 25-15-3 overall record to reach the 25-win plateau for the first time since the 2001-02 season. A 19-7-2-2 mark in WCHA action helped the Wildcats earn the second-seed in the league playoffs, where NMU reached the conference championship game for the first time since 2010.
