Mentoring program changes venue
ISHPEMING — A local youth mentoring program held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning to let the public know about their recent change in venue.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has relocated from Pioneer Avenue in Negaunee to South Fourth Street in Ishpeming.
The organization is responsible for matching “littles” from around the community, with “bigs” that range from 16 to 75 years of age. They have around 70 kids in their traditional program but pair up over200 between all of the extra programs they run, like boys and girls clubs in the school and a group specifically for people with Type one Diabetes.
The program is currently looking for both “bigs” and “littles.”
“We love it. We’re very excited about it and were proud of our new offices. It’s very accessible and we’re open to have everybody come in and visit and learn more about our organization,” said Executive Director, Jayne Letts. “If you have a child who you think could benefit from a mentoring relationship, give us a call or stop in.”
Their new location, which is a shared space with Great Lakes Recovery, is now ready to start matching up local children with positive role models.
