NMU Hockey loses to Miami; earns weekend split

OXFORD, Ohio- The No. 19 Northern Michigan hockey team was shutout 6-0 in the second game of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association series with No. 17 Miami on Saturday (Jan. 28) evening from Steve Caddy Arena.
With the loss, NMU is now 12-9-5 overall and 7-8-5-2 in the CCHA. NMU won 2-1 on Friday (Jan. 27) and defeated the RedHawks in the series in
Marquette in early December.
Miami (15-11-2, 11-9-2-1 CCHA) scored a goal in the each of the first two
periods and added four in the third.
Alex Wideman had two goals for the RedHawks while teammates Patrick
Tiesling, Bryon Paulazzo, Reilly Smith and Tyler Biggs also scored.
It was the first shutout loss of the season for the ‘Cats. The last time
they didn’t score a goal was March 5, 2011 in the CCHA opening round
playoff game against Bowling Green.
Sophomore goaltender Jared Coreau took the loss and is 8-4-2 on the
season. He had 26 saves and was pulled in the third period. Senior Reid
Ellingson had eight saves.
The RedHawks outshot the ‘Cats 40-16 and were 2-for-4 on the power-play. Northern was 0-for-5 on the man advantage.
The ‘Cats return to the Berry Events Center next weekend (Feb. 3-4)
hosting Ferris State.
