New Catholic bishop appointed
Catholics in the Upper Peninsula will soon have a new bishop.
Pope Francis has appointed Father John Doerfler as bishop of the Diocese of Marquette. Father Doerfler is the vicar general of the Diocese of Green Bay.
He will be installed as bishop at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette on February 11th. The U.P. has not had a Catholic bishop since Archbishop Alexander Sample left the region in early April to become the archbishop of Portland, Oregon.
The diocese introduced Father Doerfler at a news conference this morning. Mike Hoey attended the news conference, and he’ll have more about this story tonight on ABC 10 News Now at 5:30.
