MARQUETTE, Mich. – United States Olympic Education Center Greco-Roman wrestlers have a fresh set of training partners in the gym as Team Japan arrived on Sunday, March 24, for a five day visit. The team is comprised of athletes from Gunma and Waseda Universities as well as the Nippon Sports Science University in Japan. The team travels to Marquette each year as a part a cultural and wrestling exchange with U.S. teams.
“Visits from foreign teams are great for us,” said USOEC athlete Max Nowry. “It is good for us to see different styles of wrestling. We have the opportunity to learn from each other and make some new friendships.”
Team Japan was originally invited to Northern Michigan University by the USOEC’s former coach Ivan Ivanov and current coach Rob Hermann has continued the tradition.
