Community Garden Returns
The community garden at Grace Episcopal Church in Ishpeming is starting its second season.
Anyone in Marquette County can buy a garden plot for $20 and grow pesticide–free fruits and vegetables.
Garden organizer Sally Collins says they’re doing something new this year — they’ve set aside two plots to cultivate, as a group, for the Ishpeming Salvation Army.
Liz Nevala at the Salvation Army says she was thrilled when she heard about it because their food pantry can’t normally offer fresh produce.
The garden will also soon have a new, on–site water source, instead of using a hydrant across the street.
A grant from the Marquette County Health Department helped start the garden.
Anyone interested in getting a garden plot can contact the church in Ishpeming to find out how.
