Fatal Traffic Crash in Thompson Township
Around 10 am this morning, Troopers from the Manistique Outpost responded to a fatal traffic crash. MSP were called to U.S. 2 and Stanley Road in Thompson Township.
Upon investigation MSP determined that Chester Goudreau, a 25 year old male from Manistique, failed to stop for traffic within a heavily marked construction zone.
He struck a stopped car from behind. Goudreau was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital.
The occupant of the other vehicle was taken to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Speed, drug use, and distracted driving are believed to be factors in the crash.
Troopers were assisted by the Schoolcraft County Sherriff’s Department, Sault Tribal Police and many other agencies.
