D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans honors volunteers at 37th-annual banquet
MARQUETTE– Volunteer work is work that often goes underappreciated, although it is just as vital nonetheless.
The D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans held a banquet Thursday night, honoring all of their many volunteers.
This banquet has been held annually for 37 years, with certificates being handed out to each volunteer.
Over 200 honored volunteers gave an estimated 11,000 hours of their time assisting at the veteran’s home, although the time volunteered off the records is assumed to be much higher.
Representatives from state and federal governments were in attendance, including members from the offices of State Representative Sara Cambensy, State Senator Ed McBroom, Senator Debbie Stabenow, and Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Nine volunteer awards were given, which accumulated the hours spent volunteering, including a 5,000 hour award.
Many of the volunteers at the veteran’s home are veterans themselves.
