Michigan State Police asking drivers to slow down
MARQUETTE — Following several close calls over the past week, the Michigan State Police (MSP) is asking drivers to reduce their speeds and be alert while driving in winter weather.
From Monday January 28th to today, nine MSP patrol vehicles, that were policing crashes with their emergency lights activated, were struck by motorists. None of the troopers involved in these secondary crashes were seriously injured.
The MSP reminds motorists that even during inclement weather, drivers are responsible for maintaining control of their vehicles at all times. An amendment to an existing law requiring drivers to move over 1 or 2 vehicle lengths will go into effect on February 13th of this year, requiring motorists to reduce their speeds by 10 mph below the posted speed limit when approaching a stationary emergency vehicle.
